Singing in the Storms

Well (once again!) it's been a while since my last blog post, but I have some down time tonight so decided to share with you some of the personal struggles I've been going through lately. My aim for this post is to encourage and challenge you - you might be going through the same thing, and I hope this blog might be able to help you in some way! And also help me process through my thoughts as I type them out.

Life can be hard. It wasn't made to be easy. We all have our good days and our bad days; our struggles and our triumphs. I won't go into too much details, but this year has been extremely challenging for me - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. When life gets tough, it can be easy to turn to something to ease the pain of hardship - whether that's food, alcohol, socialising, Netflix, or even just shutting everything out. The question that challenges me when it gets tough is this: "Do I praise God through the bad times as much as I do during the good times?" God is still the same God during the good times as well as the bad. On my last block course, our lecturer quoted this:

This encouraged me, as even though life does get tough and it's very easy to keep looking for the next thing instead of focussing on God and what He wants us to learn through it all, we are growing through it all.

Another thing I have been learning lately is where my identity comes from. It can become very easy to define our identity by our jobs, our friends, our backgrounds, our education, our families, our relationships, our popularity...the list could keep going. But why do we always have an attitude to compare our successes or our misfortunes against others successes / misfortunes? How often do we identify ourselves for who we truly are?

Regardless of who we think we are, we are children of God. We are made in His image. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are loved with an everlasting love by the Creator of the universe!

My identity should come from God, and only God. It hasn't been the easiest of journeys and it hasn't come overnight for me. But I'm just taking small steps at a time and focussing on God and what His Word declares about me.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your week!

PS - Feel free to message me if you have any advice or encouragement on what you've just read...It's been a slow process for me and would love to hear from you!
